Ghana Cycling Federation celebrates a thrilling 10th National Cycling Road Championship

The Ghana Cycling Federation proudly concluded the 10th Edition of the National Cycling Road Championships on November 30, 2024. This prestigious event, held along the scenic Olebu-Ablekuma-Pokuasi route, showcased the exceptional talent, endurance, and sportsmanship of Ghana’s finest cyclists.

The one-day championship attracted 65 participants from five regions of Ghana, competing in various categories, including Elite Men, Elite Women, Under-23, and Junior divisions. The demanding course tested the athletes’ strength and strategy while offering breathtaking views of the region.

Event Highlights

  • Francis Amu, 30, of FCG Cycling Club emerged victorious in the Elite Men’s category. He completed the 100-kilometer race in an impressive 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 20 seconds, averaging a speed of 38.14 km/h.

    Elite Women’s Dominance:
    Ellen Anim from Club Sky Team secured the title in the 50-kilometre Elite Women’s road race and the 25-kilometre time trial with stellar performances. Her times were 1 hour, 46 minutes, and 1 second (28.30 km/h average speed) and 47 minutes, 3 seconds (31.88 km/h average speed), respectively

    Under-23 Star Performance:
    Emmanuel Sesi, a promising 20-year-old from Royal Stars Cycling Club in the Volta Region, claimed first place in the Under-23 category and a commendable second place in the Elite Men’s 100-kilometer road race with a time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 10 seconds.

    Junior Champion:
    Farrakhan Shaaban Mohammed, a 17-year-old from River Park Cycling Club, won both the Junior Men’s 62.5-kilometer road race and the 25-kilometer time trial. His exceptional UCI training skills helped him dominate with times of 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 14 seconds (34.97 km/h average speed) and 38 minutes, 10 seconds (39.30 km/h average speed), respectively.

    Time Trial Excellence:
    Frank Love Quaye of The Boss Tribes Cycling Club claimed gold in both the Men’s Elite and Under-23 25-kilometer time trials, clocking an impressive time of 36 minutes, 3 seconds (41.61 km/h average speed).
