This major cycling championships marking a historic milestone for global cycling and a celebration of Africa’s growing presence in the sport. This year’s championships are ground breaking on several levels. Kigali, the cycling capital of Africa, has given us the platform to showcase the potential, inspire the next generation, attract strong partnerships, and strengthen the vision of making cycling a flagship sport in Ghana and throughout Africa for years to come. Day One opened with an extraordinary display of continental unity, as 36 African nations the largest representation ever at a UCI World Championships history. This historic turnout stands as a powerful testament to the rapid growth and rising influence of cycling across Africa.

Los Angeles, California — September 17, 2025: For the first time since its inception in 1921, the UCI World Cycling Championships will take place on the African continent in Kigali, Rwanda, and the Bahati Foundation and Ghana Cycling Federation are proud to be part of this historic moment for the continent.
The Bahati Foundation, through its African Cycling Initiative (ACI), is supporting and coaching the Ghana Cycling Federation’s National Junior Team as they compete on the world stage in Kigali, Rwanda, this September 21 – 28, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for African cycling as well as for the continent and underscores the growing commitment to developing talent, infrastructure, and opportunities for cyclists across the continent.
SWAG Award Winner Emmanuel Sesi Departs for UCI Training Scholarship in South Africa
The Ghana Cycling Federation is pleased to announce that Emmanuel Sesi, the sensational winner of the 2024 SWAG Cyclist of the Year Award, will depart the shores of Ghana tomorrow, May 1, 2025, to participate in a one-month intensive training scholarship organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in South Africa.
This high-performance training camp, scheduled from May 1 to May 31, 2025, forms part of the UCI’s global initiative to nurture and develop promising talents in competitive cycling. Emmanuel Sesi’s selection is a proud moment for Ghana and underscores his growing stature in the sport.
